Dragon Thrones is an event crafted for participants of all experience levels, including those from gaming, performative, and cosplay communities, to create an epic story collaboratively! You make significant game choices alongside Game Masters (GMs) and costumed Non-Player Characters (NPCs). Dragon Thrones merges immersive roleplaying with tabletop gaming, set in stunning locations, offering a complete fantasy vacation experience. Ultimately, you might save the realm, but what is priceless is that you’ll forge friendships that last a lifetime!

What are the guidelines for playing?

Dragon Thrones is a "story-focused yet rules-light" game featuring an open-world design and a dynamic, adaptable plot. Like European theater or parlor LARPs, you interact with other players and coordinate with GMs before making significant decisions. The aim is to enjoy yourself and ensure others do too! While everyone collaborates to craft the best story, it doesn't imply the absence of conflict or combat. Instead, players and the GM collaborate to script scenes involving players who wish to engage in battle or take daring actions. This approach to interactive roleplaying often leads to impactful story conclusions, as it ensures everyone's participation and respect.

Rules of Play for Dragon Thrones:

Dragon Thrones has four pillars of epic storytelling experience. These include:

(1) Live-Action Roleplaying (Theater LARP): The event uses collaborative parlor LARP rules, essentially story-based roleplaying in which the players and GMs must first agree upon scenes and combat. At Dragon Thrones, there are plenty of opportunities for characters to engage in battle or be involved in impactful scenes to compel the plot. The most common ways players engage in LARP at Dragon Thrones are scenes between groups of players, stage acts and performances, and combat.

(2) Tabletop RPG Gaming: 5th Edition RPG rules are used for tabletop quests in character to help expand the storytelling and theater of the mind adventuring in the realm.

(3) Interactive Questing: Quests involving non-player characters (NPCs), scavenger hunts, escape rooms and puzzles, and weaponed and magic combat versus NPC monsters are the most common quests at Dragon Thrones. No experience is necessary. Our talented staff prepares you before the quest begins, and you will often quest in a group or as a team.

(4) Theater of War: When Houses battle one another, we now call it “Theater of War.” This is a very rules-light LARP game in which the Heroes of each House have a key responsibility. They then attack, defend, dual buy/sell/trade, politic, sign treaties and laws, and otherwise strategize with allies during the competitive war known as The Ascension.

The goal of Dragon Thrones is NOT to “win," but to create the best-shared goal for all players. Dragon Thrones presents a competitive and dystopian world story, but underneath it all, it’s a collaborative event in many ways.

What does my all-inclusive ticket cover?

Is a costume necessary?

Yes. However, choosing a costume is a personal decision. You are in charge of your costumes. Nevertheless, both we and our enthusiastic player community will provide guidance on the available costume choices! Your Kingdom House and character class best determine costumes. Every House possesses a unique and vibrant culture along with its distinct colors. Visit the Kingdoms Page or the Pinterest Board for examples. Dragon Thrones is a space free of judgment. You have the freedom to choose comfortable and budget-friendly outfits. Our policy does not allow modern attire at our events, so we kindly ask that you avoid wearing jeans or sports jerseys.

Is it permissible to bring weapons?

All types of metal weapons are strictly prohibited. Latex weapons are the only ones permitted. Sample: https://epicarmoury.com/categories/weaponry/

What materials are used for characters?

Two character sheets are used for the event:

(1) Your LARP Sheet contains details about your character's background, personality traits (both positive and negative), strengths, weaknesses, personal and global objectives, relationships with other players, and storylines.

(2) Your 5E RPG Sheet is your fundamental character “stats sheet” for the 5th edition RPG play.

At the event, you will utilize both, with your LARP sheet as the centerpiece for defining your character's identity and addressing the big "why" questions. In contrast, your RPG sheet will be used during tabletop RPG sessions in the expanded world.

Note: Tabletop RPG gaming and 5th Edition RPG rules experience are not required to attend the event. Our talented GMs will lead you in character on your storied journey and will give you impactful decisions to make during your adventures.

How are character sheets made?

New players will be assigned a pre-created LARP character. Select your House during checkout based on availability. You are allowed to edit and update your LARP sheet.

Returning Players: A pre-generated LARP sheet will be provided if you take on a new character. You can edit your sheet. Alternatively, you can continue with your current character and respond to questions to update their details for the plots and objectives of the next event you scheduled. You can also create or update your 5E sheet or request a pre-generated one.

Dragon Throne players love creating 5E character sheets for others, so you'll always have new friends ready to assist!

Is it okay if I bring a group of family and friends?

Yes, as long as everyone receives a ticket! Subject to availability, we can arrange for you to be in the same Kingdom and enjoy numerous exciting activities together. We can also organize group hotel room arrangements. Our goal is to guarantee that your group enjoys a truly memorable weekend!
